Do you like reading? Many people like reading, but the real question is, do you like reading on an e-reader or a physical book? I love reading; I spend most of my time reading and rereading books. Unlike many readers, I enjoy reading novels and books on an e-reader rather than physically. Reading on a device is just so much more convenient. If you disagree or think physical books are better, I hope you change your mind after reading this article! For reference, I have a Kindle 11th generation, and I usually read on the Kindle app on my phone or the actual device. Buying a Kindle was life-changing in so many ways and is definitely a worth it purchase. Now here are the reasons why e-readers, in general, are way better than physical books.

More Accessible

First, reading on an e-reader makes reading books more accessible and easier. You can go out with your Kindle, one small device, but really it will be like you going out with a whole library of your favorite books, books you’ve read, and books you want to read. Who doesn’t want this many books stored in one device and quickly taken with you anywhere? Going anywhere with your e-reader will allow you to read more. If you find yourself in a situation where you are free or waiting for an appointment, you can start reading on your device!

Another thing is you can continue reading the book anywhere. When you pause while reading a physical book, you put a bookmark, and you have to continue using the same copy of the book. However, on an ebook, you can close the device. You don’t have to return to that same device again if you have the account of your initial device on your phone or any other device. This is so convenient because you don’t have to remember where you stopped and don’t need to carry the physical book around with you everywhere.

Features an E-reader Offers

E-readers offer a lot of features that make them better than physical books. How often did you want to get a novel but get annoyed when you find it printed on white paper or a form other than creme paper? Most e-readers allow you to change the page’s background to suit your comfort, which is a very beneficial feature. Another one is adjustable brightness. When reading at night or in the dark, physical books are a pain. You have to have good lighting and a suitable place to read. Having an e-reader removes this problem and gives you the feature of adjusting the brightness of the light. It’s also easier to hold; you can comfortably sit anywhere with it. Another fantastic feature is that you can change the font and size of the text. You can change the size and font if the text is too small or too big.

Annotating:

People who like annotating while reading might argue that annotating on e-readers is not great. But that is not true; ebooks have the feature of highlighting and typing notes. Some e-readers, like Kindle Scribe, come with a pencil and give you the option to draw or write your notes rather than type them.

Dictionaries

My favorite thing about most e-readers is that you can press on a word, and the definition will appear immediately. This feature has never been in physical books, but when you try it on an e-reader, you can never read without it again. A lot of the time, while reading, we stumble across words we don’t know the meaning of; while we don’t really need to know the meaning of every word we read, having the definition one click away is a blessing! You get to learn so many new words; you don’t have to search for them and potentially be distracted! Having the meaning of the words under your fingertips helps you expand your vocabulary and understanding of the scene. This feature is my favorite, and I always use it whenever I’m reading. You can download the dictionary in any language, allowing you to see the definition of a word in the language you are most comfortable in.

Everything good about a physical book is now replicated and applied to e-readers; some people might argue that physical books may have a different feeling than e-readers. This is somewhat true; however, that doesn’t detract from all the other unique features an e-reader offers! Every reader should invest in an e-reader; it is worth it.
