The Free, Caged Birds

A Poem

Isolated and alone
Caged birds, freer than us all
Their songs loud
but we’re deaf to them,
our ears trained to listen only to the nonsense

They are exquisite and beautiful,
but the camera showing them has bad quality:
it’s old and broken,
it does them dirty.

Our eyes glorify the rotten
and see diamonds in the mines as trash

How could we discard what’s so valuable like that?

Real heroes are not wearing capes
They are locked up and chained,
They wear blue vests and regular clothes just like us

People don’t chant their names or hang their pictures,
But history does, it breathes their victory and good

Note:
People imprisoned for their good effective impact are freer than all of us, not physically chained.
These people broke free from society’s rule, the oppressors' control, and the trivial matters of this world.
While here we are chained by society’s trends, its deteriorating standards, our desires, oppressors' rule, the economy, and social media.
These people, despite their chained limbs, tortured bodies, and lonely cells, have the most valuable thing ever.
They have their faith. Their connection with Allah, their purity.
These people have no association with corruption, they are not tainted by it.

These people have the brightest, most nurtured souls.

So don’t be fooled, they are caged but they’re the real free birds.

Thank you for reading!

P.S. You can always break free from the cage. You can always leave the crowd, do the right thing, ignore the trends, nurture and enrich your soul. (To do that, you must first acknowledge that you’re caged, though.)
