Can you tell the difference of being alone or being lonely? Do you think being alone is being lonely? Give it a thought if you didn’t yet.

Being alone is a physical state of being in a place where no one else but you are present, on the other hand being lonely is a psychological state in which one is sad because he/she has no friends nor company.

Loneliness is different from being alone, there is a significant difference in both terms. You are not necessarily lonely if you are alone.

Being alone could be relaxing, fun, boring and sometimes lonely, however have you ever thought about being with people and still feel lonely. Well being lonely is a lot deeper than what it sounds like and mostly used.

Some people feel lonely in bed at night while some people might feel lonely at school in the day. Loneliness is different according to each individual. Did you know that there are other reasons a person can feel lonely other than not having friends or losing an important person?

Well some people are lonely even though they have people at school/work to talk to and sit with, but they could still feel lonely for various reasons.

You might feel lonely because you are not acknowledged by the people around you, or because you feel like no one cares. You could be with a crowd or people, or with a large group of people, however, still feel lonely, it could be because you think no one wants to know or you think no one knows me.

If you have just found out that your friend didn’t feel connected to you like how you felt connected to them, that could be the cause of your loneliness

Having lots and lots of friends but none of them are deeply connected or close to you, might be another reason behind the feeling of emptiness.

When do you feel lonely the most? Do you crave closeness, do you feel incomplete? Do you prefer quality verses quantity? Do surface friends make you feel lonely and isolated?

You don’t necessarily need to be alone to be lonely. You could be in the middle of crowd, in a class full of students, or in an office full of workers and you feel lonely, on the other hand you could be alone and feel peaceful and relaxed.

Take time to think and acknowledge the difference between both terms; lonely and alone.
