Guilty Comforts
Maybe you forgot or maybe you don’t care.
I won’t assume anything, in case it will offend any of you sitting out there.
But to you, people, listen carefully to what I have to say:
Your action and inaction will one day be weighted on a scale.
To our lovely and attentive world leaders,
This life is not worth a fly’s wing
Yet you’re so quick to sell our people’s blood abroad
for these temporary delusions that will soon perish
when you take your last breath.
What have you gained from all of this?
Trading our dignity for fleeting delusions that have no passport to life beyond death,
and are not ticketed to visit your blue, cold frame that lays unmoving in the chilly bed.
You’ve gained but one thing, I think-
The warmth and comfort of your guilt and regret.
A suffocating blanket wrapped around your fragile body, despite your former wealth.
Meanwhile humanity erases you from her memory and leaves you behind.
As it should because all you’ve done is spin and spew lies.
Maybe you forgot but I think you just don’t care.
I won’t apologize if this offends any of you sitting out there.
Because hearing the uncomfortable truth is important
Even if it will leave you nursing a bruised ego
- or a heavy conscience.
The scale will be there and it’s up to you to choose which will be the heavier side.
To the people like you and me,
Thinking we’re too insignificant to change the present,
And the future we foresee:
“How can I create change, when it’s just me?”
-Thought 7 Billion people,
Not a very insignificant number as you can see.
So a person like you is not unimportant like you would like to believe…
Now hear me out and choose what you deem right
-If not for them, at least so you can put your mind at ease:
You can’t go buy stuff from the enemy.
Funding the death of our people
for an iced coffee in the morning.
With a soft glazed donut thats taste you commit to memory
For that diet coke you sip when you eat.
The new shoes and perfume collection- you definitely obsess over these.
And how can you skip on buying the newly released book by this problematic author,
Just because she supports the killing of our families?
Don’t you think it’s time to wake up,
It’s time to stop being deceived.
We definitely have options
Steering away from products that support slaughtering and occupation should be guaranteed.
To our world leaders,
It’s not too late to weigh your options,
To finally be worthy of the crown you’re wearing.
To make the right thing,
Not based on your needs, but rather what you’ve always claimed to believe.
The world is waking up,
They’re realizing that what’s heard is not what’s occurring.
They’re staring at everything passed as the truth with disbelief.
So you too, wake up,
You can still start fixing what is corrupt.
And maybe bring justice and safety to our families.
I think you forgot because I’m sure you care.
Witnessing the murder of over 33 thousand people in their homeland,
doesn’t just leave a person unaffected and unaware.
We need to start rejecting any comforts that leads to others pain.
If everyone who thought their action is inconsequential drops the enemy’s product and found a better alternative
This world will change;
we’ll see it being repaired,
the way we’ve always longed
but never put in the work, too lazy and too scared.
